Athugala Rock Temple
Athugala is one of the prominent landmarks of Kurunegala. The locals use the name of Athugalpuraya to identify the town. The rock has derived its name as the rock is in the shape of an elephant and is 325 meters tall. There is a myth of the local in the vicinity that the rock has obtained such formation due to animals turning into rocks not being able to withstand the severe drought. There is a temple on the top of the rock and also, a big Samadhi Buddha statue overlooking the city of Kurunegala though there is a temple on the top of the cliff, individuals from many faiths visiting the temple to enjoy the hike and the adventurous journey towards the top of the mountain. Kurunegala Lake is also known as Rantalia Lake or Kurunegala tank. It a marvelous water body, which is situated away from the city traffic and on the edge of the main town. Sitting near the lake of walking around it and enjoying the view is, of course, free of cost. Enjoying your time with the lake, you can head to a restaurant or bar to enjoy the sunset. Panduwasnuwara
History of Panduwasnuwara goes as far back the 6th century BC, the time of King Panduwasdeva (504-474 BC) who is credited with building Panda Wewa reservoir around 450 BC which is considered the first man made great reservoir in the world. Mahawamsa, the great chronicle of Sri Lanka, records that king Mahadathika Mahanaga (9-21 AC) presenting gifts to a Samanera bhikku of the Pandawa Vehera in the 34th chapter. In the 60th chapter it describes repairing of Panda Wewa by king Vijayabahu I (1070-1110) and in the 68th chapter king Parakramabahu (1153-1186) expanding the Panda Wewa and building a three storied palace and a stupa on the island of the Panda Wewa. According to Parker, the Panda Wewa had extended upto thePanduwasnuwara city the current building identified as the palace complex may have been an island in the extended Panda wewa which is no more today.

Yapahuwa is located a little way off the Kurunegala-Anuradhapura road, in the Wayamba province of Sri Lanka. Of all the ancient ruins in the country the Rock Fortress Complex of Yapahuwa is considered to be quite remarkable despite the fact that it isn’t famous among most visitors. However, it is renowned as one of the best archeological site in the country. It is even rumored to be more significant than The Rock Fortress in Sigiriya.

Ridi Viharaya

Ridi Viharaya (Sinhala: රිදී විහාරය) or Silver Temple is a 2nd-century BCE Theravada Buddhist temple in the village of Ridigama, Sri Lanka.[2][3] Built during the reign of Dutthagamani of Anuradhapura, the temple is considered as the place where the silver ore, which provided silver to complete Ruwanwelisaya; one of the largest stupa in Sri Lanka, was discovered. According to the chronicles Mahavamsa and Thupavamsa, the Ridi Viharaya complex was built in gratitude for helping him cherish his dream of completing Ruwanwelisaya.

Rambadagalla Viharaya

Rambodagala which belongs to the North-western Province and Kurunegala District owns a prominent place in the hearts of Buddhists for having the largest Buddha statue. The venue is nearly 20km apart from Kurunegala, 5km from Rideegama and 94km from the capital city, Colombo. The Samadhi Buddha statue located at the Rambadagalla Monaragala Viharaya in Ridigama, Kurunegala is 67.5 feet in height. The statue is considered as world largest statue of Samadhi Buddha. The works for this carved Buddha statue was started in 2003 September. The main artistic works of the statue was maintained by a South Indian architect named Muththaiya Isthapathi. The gigantic Buddha statue was carved out of a massive rock in the Rambodagala Temple premises.
